August 29th - Lasting Joy, Not Fleeting Pleasure
"You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound."
Psalm 4:7
Thoughts and Meditation
The joy we receive in the Lord is both more than the fleeting pleasure they receive when they find joy in their material goods. Our joy in the Lord is lasting. It is always. It continues on and we rejoice in Him. Their “joy”, if it can even be called joy, is fleeting and temporary and never enough. They will never find enough pleasure. They will seek it out more and more until they exhaust every avenue of sin searching for pleasure and desire. They will try to fill themselves up with all sorts of pleasures and sins and deaths, and they will reap that which they fill themselves with.
They fill themselves with dung, and that they will receive. Their joy is like dung with a gold layer on it. It might look pretty and it might look shiny and valuable but on the inside it is rotting and smelly and fading.
Let us ask the Lord to help us find our joy in Him alone and let us praise Him for being a God who does fill us with His joy. Let it be done, Amen.
